2 Part Hands-On Assisting Workshop

In this two-part workshop series, you will learn how to effectively empower your students to leave the room feeling better in their own bodies. We will cover the basics of assisting, different types of assisting and when to implement each type, assisting foundation and a deep dive into more advanced poses. Each part is 4 hours long with breaks as they are needed. This will be a physically demanding intensive as we will be practicing on each other. Please bring a water bottle, electrolyte highly recommended.


Yoga Alliance Continuing Education: This course is eligible for 8 hours for CE credits. Each part qualifies for 4 contact hours.

Part I: Intro to Assisting

  1. Why assisting
  2. Types of assists
  3. How to determine the type of assist
  4. Asking for permission
  5. Do and Don’t with assisting
  6. Assisting intentions
  7. Assisting tadasana
  8. Assisting through Sun A and Sun B
  9. Assisting seated
  10. Assisting supine poses

Part II: Deeper Dive

  1. Quick review from Part I
  2. Assisting standing balancing poses
  3. Assisting forward bends/hamstring openers
  4. Assisting twisting poses
  5. Assisting backbends
  6. Assisting hip openers
  7. Assisting inverted poses


No prior assisting knowledge is needed to attend the session. If you choose to only attend the second part, it is highly recommended some prior assisting knowledge.

Materials needed:

  • Yoga Mat
  • Pen and Notepad for notes
  • Water bottle
  • Electrolytes highly suggested as this will be an intensive 4 hours
  • Snacks
  • A positive attitude to learn and share
